Su verdadero nombre era Gustavo Eriksson, siendo Vasa un sobrenombre o apodo. Dirigió el movimiento nacional que, tras expulsar a los daneses, logró la emancipación del país (caída de Kalmar, 1523). Fue nombrado regente y luego elegido rey (1523). Adoptó el luteranismo como religión oficial y secularizó los bienes de la iglesia (1527)....
